Dr. D.P. Sharma

Dr. D.P. Sharma is a recognized Physiotherapist, educationist and socialist. He served as a higher-ranking physiotherapist in the leading institutions and organizations. Dr. Sharma was the pioneer member of Laxmibai National Institute of Physical Education (previously known as LCPE), a Deemed University under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. He is also Founder Chairman of Mahatma Dhule Sikhsha evem Samaj Kalyan Samiti under which two state-of-the-art engineering colleges in the Gwalior region run successfully.
Dr. Sharma received a Diploma in Physiotherapy from Physio-Occupational Therapy Institute (Under the aid of crippled and handicapped, New Delhi). This diploma was awarded By Mr. K.K. Shah, then Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Planning.
He also received a Diploma in Physical Therapy and Sport Medicine from Maulana Azad Medical College under Jawahar Lal Nehru Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, New Delhi.
Dr. Sharma started his career as Physiotherapist in Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, Punjab.
He also served as Demonstrator and Lab Assistant in LNIPE (Previously known as LCPE). After getting the higher education and experience he joined as Lecturer in Kinesiology in the same institute.
Dr. Sharma attended Sports Medicince seminar organized by Madhya Pradesh State Association of Sports Medicince held at Laxmibai National College of Physical Education, Gwalior during 1-2 March, 1986 and also present a paper “Discussion on Knee Problems”
He is a great social worker and philosopher. For serving the poor people, who are unable to bear the medical expenditures and for upliftmentof their living standards, he started the Devesh Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation under the regime of J.A. Group of Hospitals, Gwalior. The objective to start this center was primarily to serve the people who are physically and mentally challenged with their lives in very critical condition. Dr. Sharma served them day and night and made them physically fit and uplifted their lifestyle thereby. He also made necessary arrangements for the stay of the patient and their attendees.
During the run of this institute, Dr. Sharma was associated with highly recognized doctors of the region. Prof. Ajay Shankar, Dr. Rastogi, Dr.Haritwal, Dr. B.P. Chandak, Dr. Mahesh Upadhyay and Dr. Ravi Raman are the few to name.
For the upliftment of the educational standards and to provide a sound technical education with ‘Bhart Sewak Samaj’ at affordable fees, he established two engineering institutions at Gwalior offering 4 years B.E. Program.
Dr. Sharma, a great thinker and motivator, at the age of 85 is still continuing to serve the society by mentoring, guiding and motivating the students and the faculty members of the institutions. His age has never been a constraint in the way of his daily visits to the two institutes. His personal interaction with the faculty members and students encourage and inspire to achieve the goals in different spheres of their career. He has great concern about animals and birds. He ensures consistently to makes some necessary arrangements for stray cows.
